What? I’m teaching handwriting and letter sounds?

Don’t you wish you could have $5.00 for every time you’ve heard the word “unprecedented” this year? Yep, me too. But, things are different now. Caregivers of all kinds are finding themselves faced with the task to instruct an early childhood kiddo to learn to read and write the alphabet. Okay, let’s start with the A,B,C song and how to hold a pencil. Now what?

This English Language Arts product at the Iceberg is designed for anyone (yep you!!) to have the confidence to teach the kiddo in their life how to write the letters of the alphabet and use them appropriately. You will find detailed handwriting instruction, an opportunity to practice the letter strokes, and a chance to apply the corresponding letter sounds to pictures clues to build words. There are detailed lesson suggestions and explanations of how to use the activities with your kiddo(s). All activities offer a choice of color or blackline/ gray scale clipart. Yes, you can do this!!

That letter fits between his belly button and where he is sitting down.

Yes, discuss that real penguins do not have belly buttons. But, it’s fun and makes sense for kiddos to point and describe how the letter fits between their belly buttons and sitting down. Might as well have a good laugh while you’re getting the kiddos to notice the details of the letters! The kiddos need something relevant for the terms headline, midline, and baseline for letter placement on the page. Did you know that there are letters that get to go swimming?! Do you know which ones?

A Penguin to help with letter placement.

3 Ways to practice each letter of the alphabet: focus on the order of the strokes, stroke placement in reference to the headline, midline, and baseline, and then add the letter to words using that sound. The vowel sheets have a variety of sounds represented. Never too early to get the kiddos to listen and identify the different vowel sounds. You’ll thank yourself later!
