Eric Carle’s A House for Hermit Crab is an awesome example of the talents of Mr. Carle. The illustrations draw you into the story, just as we’ve come to expect from the plethora of his publications. Hermit Crab establishes friendships along the way that help him over the hurdles of growing up. Hermit Crab and Friends will help you through the 8 components in this Math product.

Hermit Crab and Friends ELAR or Math Activities?
Excitedly, I decided to take the Numeracy route in designing activities for this book. Since Texas is my home base, I always have the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) running through my creative process. If they aren’t your priority, I hope these Math TEKS easily correspond with your state’s or country’s standards.
Components for Hermit Crab and Friends Math Activities
However, the 8 components are in separate blog posts, instead of a massive post explaining each section. I felt that no one would probably read each description (no fault of yours, just life, LOL). Probably scrolling through in lightning speed with rapid glances at the pictures. You can see a quick Preview at Etsy Shop or TeachersPayTeachers .
First, in the Vocabulary Cards section are 76 cards to expand the content of numeracy in the following activities.
Secondly, for the 14 Anchor Charts section are charts to label workstations/ centers for the categories of the activities.
Next, in the Skip Counting section are activities to practice counting by 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s using Sequencing Cards. Seven versions of Skip Counting activities for 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s, and 10’s.
After that, for the Whole-Part-Part / Number Bonds section are activities to practice finding the sum or addends that are missing in the combination.
Next, in the On and Off section are activities to practice automaticity for number combinations to 20 using gameboards and recording sheets.
Then, for the Subitizing section are activities to practice immediately recognizing the total of items in various arrangements.
In the Time section are activities to practice telling time to the hour and half-hour in numerals and words.
Finally, for the Ordinal Words section are activities to practice and master writing Ordinal Words and their Abbreviations to label items in order 1st-12th.
There are three designs of all recording sheets.
**First, a kiddo version in color.
**Secondly, a kiddo version in grayscale.
**Finally, a “Self Check” version for either the kiddos or for the teacher/ caregiver (For when you can’t think of checking one thing.).
Lastly, the activity sections for, A House for Hermit Crab, have lesson suggestions and explanations. My goal is to show how to use the activities with your kiddos. I know you’ll tweak them to fit your kiddos’ needs. My goal is that you’ll PRINT-N-GO!
