Literacy: English Language Arts- Reading & Writing (ELA-R_W) Curriculum topics were my catalyst for beginning the Iceberg website. The main foundations in Literacy: ELA- Reading & Writing are letter/sound knowledge, vocabulary development, reading fluency, and reading comprehension. Then, I believe the most complicated task for kiddos is to combine these skills to write to communicate their thoughts.
I investigate and determine a topic related to ELA-R_W Curriculum Objectives for my state. The objectives in Texas are pretty intense and very similar to the Common Core. Therefore, I felt confident I would produce something many will find useful for their kiddos
Literacy “Must Haves”
Literacy “Must Haves” to teach ELA- Reading & Writing are shared below. These philosophies have made teaching ELA-R_W must more meaning for me and my kiddos: just plain fun!
- The Daily 5 and CAFE: sharing my journey to the 2 Sisters and how I implemented their ideas into my classroom.
- Nothing Like a Good Book: sharing books and the activities that I’ve found and/or created to accompany the books that make me smile, because there’s “nothing like a good book” read aloud. I think one of the best educational perks is the moment when you’re reading a book aloud and you know, really know your listeners are hooked and if you just stopped the story a mutiny would ensue.
- Whole Group Activities: sharing activities that you would do as an entire class, but could probably put in a work station, because you never finish things when you think you will or you want to provide the kiddos with additional practice.
- “Teacher Table” /Small Group Instruction: sharing how my “Teacher Table” area is set up and how I plan what I do in small group.
- Work Stations: sharing activities and ideas for the “What are the other kiddos doing while I have small group instruction?”
What are your “must haves” for teaching Literacy: ELA- Reading & Writing objectives?
