The category Nothing Like a Good Book is the place on the Iceberg for sharing books and the activities that I’ve found and/or created to accompany the books that make me smile. I’ve always thought, there’s “nothing like a good book” read aloud. In my teaching career, I think one of the best educational perks is the moment when you’re reading a book aloud and you know, really know your listeners are hooked and that if you just stopped the story, closed the book, a mutiny would ensue. 🙂
As I was sorting through and organizing my classroom library, I wanted to stop someone, anyone and tell them the amusing (at least to 🙂 me) anecdotes I had with the books.
Where I first saw the book?
How the book came to be in my library?
Was the book from a great sale?
Was the book a gift from a dear educator, my family, or former kiddos?
Who first shared the book with me?
What connections did I have to the characters?
Did former kiddos love or dislike the book?
What made me laugh?
What made me sad?
What reminded me of another book I’ve read?
What art project could go with the book?
What writing prompts came to mind?
It seemed that there was a story to go with each and every book in my classroom library. Just realized I should pause while writing this page and apologize to all of the colleagues who were stopped as they walked passed my classroom door and endured an anecdote. Thanks for loving and accepting my quirky ways as I interrupted you in your tasks. 😉 So following the suggestion from Jillian, one of my wonderful Looping Teammates, Nothing Like a Good Book will be the place on the Iceberg to stop you and share my anecdotes for books that have touched my heart.
