Curriculum Topics at the Iceberg

curriculum topics

The Curriculum Topics at the Iceberg are mainly Literacy and Numeracy focused. The blog posts and products are assigned a “Category(ies)” and “Tag (s)” . I imagine I’m skating (or waddling along) on an iceberg. I swerve pass the skills for English Language Arts, Reading and Writing. Then, I swish by the essentials for Math mastery. I ponder what topics to address. Will I either build a blog post here at the Iceberg or design a new product or revamp an existing product? When skating(or waddling) becomes too taxing and my mind is overloaded, I pretend to slide and take a brake like my penguin friends. 😉

Skating through the ELA-R Curriculum Topics

The main topics in English Language Arts and Reading are letter/sound knowledge, vocabulary development, reading fluency and reading comprehension. Once a topic has been determined, I investigate the related Curriculum Objectives for my state. The objectives in Texas are pretty intense and very similar to the Common Core, so I feel confident I will produce something many will find useful.

Skating through the Math Curriculum Topics

The main topics in Math are number concept development, composing and decomposing a given number, demonstrating place value, solving and creating story problems. By the same token, I choose an area and investigate the relating Math Curriculum Objectives for my state.

In the initial stages of the P. E. Iceberg, I was trying to write and design too many things at one time. I quickly realized I needed to organize the Curriculum Topics. The Topics or Categories should not just make sense to me, but to any one skating through the Iceberg.

In addition, I realized I needed to skate through the Curriculum Sub-Topics or Tags to further organize my thoughts. The Tags give specific divisions or themes of the Curriculum Topics.
